Let’s get your workplace recognised

Every year we eagerly anticipate the moment when, Australia’s top 50 Great Places to Work are revealed inside the pages of the Australian Financial Review. Is your organisation going to be one of them?

Because let’s face it, these coveted industry awards matter. And if your answer to the previous question is no, then read on to start thinking about how to change that to a YES for next year...

As with any great accolade, you have to be in it to win it. Before you commit, you need to weigh up the pros and the cons for your organisation first:

✅ Employee pride

✅ Reputation building

✅ Talent attraction

✅ Personal recognition

❌ Difficulty standing out from the crowd

❌ A need to optimise what you currently do

It’s hard to deny those pros but getting award ready is an investment in time and resources to make it all worthwhile, so we’ve put together our top tips to set you on your way.

Build commitment and pride

Some award entries require employee participation so you’ll need to get your employees on board. Finding the balance between chest-beating and authentically creating a buzz is key. Run a warm-up campaign, reminding employees what you offer them as an employer so they can respond to any surveys fully-informed and get the recognition they deserve.

Create a standout entry

With thousands of applications, your submission needs cut-through. Use your Employer Brand and Tone of Voice to let your personality shine through and make every word count. Our thought-starter? How do your initiatives align to your Purpose and demonstrate impact for the organisation?

Celebrate the win

This is where the fun begins! Instead of the traditional (yawn) posts on Yammer or mass email blast, think through how you’re going to publicly celebrate your collective win to create a lasting impact with current and even future employees. Think about your social strategy (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) and what publications or influencers you can approach to promote the great work you’re doing. This is a newsworthy moment, so be sure to do it justice by thinking outside the box.

2020 saw a knock-out win for purpose driven Interactive, officially becoming Australia’s #1 Great Place to Work (as well as being a #1 client of ours too) We chatted with their Director of People & Culture about the recent achievement, what the title means for their people and the business, and what comes next for the purpose-driven organisation. Not ready yet? Get award fit for next year!

It can take up to a year to get an organisation award-ready. Once you’ve set your sights on an award, it’s time to start building your story and evidence. First, measure your organisation against the judging criteria to identify your gaps and focus areas. Then it’s time to develop your strategy to success.

Hint: Re-engineering parts of your EX, building connection through Employer Brand or putting tangible measures in place for current initiatives will give you the edge.

We’d love to partner with you on your journey to award glory. Whether that's using creativity to set your entry up for success, or getting a proactive plan in place for next year, we can make it happen together.
